Annual scholarship established by Ray and Jann Allen to encourage and develop future teachers in Warrick County. The annual award will provide a scholarship to a Boonville High School or Tecumseh High School student who plans to pursue a career in teaching or an education-related field.
Ray Allen and Jann Wasson met while in college pursuing agriculture and English education. After receiving their degrees, the newly married Allens returned to Warrick County where Ray began farming on the Allen family homestead, a Warrick County farm since 1868. Soon children came, Neal and Jessica, and they settled into life in the country. Later, Jann taught junior high English and furthered her career with a Masters Education. She shared her love for teaching and her students flourished as she encouraged lifelong learning.
The Allens strongly believe in education and want teachers in the community to be well-trained and enthusiastic in their profession. “Education is the backbone of our country. Strong teachers make strong schools that make strong students who build strong communities.”
